On 05 October 2023, IFESO, the French Institute for Strategic and Operational Education, celebrates its tenth anniversary.

On Thursday 4 May 2023, Défense Conseil International (DCI) Group had announced the signature of an agreement relating to the acquisition of a 60% stake in the capital of IFESO.

With IFESO, whose expertise is recognised in France and internationally, DCI Group had reinforced its training offer in the fields of advanced military education, planning and conduct of military operations. DCI Group now has a new capacity of influence in the strategic field of Staff training and education, pursuing the implementation of its strategic plan 2022/2027.

This rapprochement reinforced DCI Group’s partnerships with prestigious actors such as Ecole de Guerre and the Centre for Planning and Conduct of Operations (CPCO) in France, and also NATO headquarters, and many partner countries.

The resulting stake majority ownership of DCI in IFESO is in line with the strategic choice of the Minister for the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, who, in the report annexed to the proposed military programming law (LPM) 2024-30, clarified his goal of reinforcing France’s influence with its partners to revitalise training in the fields of Advanced Military Training.

« Relying on French recognised expertise, our partnerships will develop through enhanced training capabilities in different topics. After a long period of reduction of places in military schools, France breaks this trend and will propose training for a large number of officers and non-commissioned officers from partner countries of all continents ».
Sébastien Lecornu

The French Institute for Strategic and Operational Education (IFESO) has developed a unique set of programmes for French Armed Forces as well as countries and organizations France maintains cooperation with. These programmes make it possible to acquire and maintain joint planning and conduct of operations capability in a global crisis approach.

In addition, IFESO has a partnership with the French Command for Joint Operations (CPOIA) and the Joint Centre for Doctrine Concepts and Experiments (CICDE) in order to ensure quality and provide up-to-date education and training.

Also, IFESO provides all the Command & Control (C2) training programmes of the G5 Sahel Defence College, financed by the European Union. In this way, IFESO contributes to DCI Group’s EU/NATO development.
